Hey Tom,

I have to agree, that Cardinal is sure one very cool looking bird! I didn't realize they were in Arizona, I will have to keep a sharper eye out for them next time.

All of these are cool shots, #3 really stands out for me.

3 is definitely the clear winner here, but nice ones overall Tom!

You HAD to have been rocking a long lens, unless Cards out West are braver than the ones over here.:D

Tom, are the Cardinals located all over Arizona or just certain areas? What's the best time to shoot them?

Hi Jim...

The ones I've seen and photographed have been mostly in the Spring. Phoenix/Scottsdale is kind of on the northern limits of the Cardinal's normal habitat. Here's a link to the Audubon page which shows the normal areas: http://www.audubon.org/field-guide/bird/northern-cardinal

As you can see, they're more likely to be found in the southeastern part of the state. Hope that helps.

Wow, extraordinary portraits of these beautiful birds. Cardinals here are feisty, territorial birds and while they're tough to other birds they tend to be quite wary of humans (even though I feed them all year!!). Good stuff.

Hi Jeffrey, Douglas and Mike...

Thank you so much for your comments.

Mike...The Cardinals are very skittish, but occasionally one will decide to be a little more cooperative. That's when I'm glad my 7 fps on my Canon 80D is available.
