This is from back on June 16th, I was leaving California to head to Colorado about 6 hours later then I had planned. While slowly working my way through SoCal rush hour traffic right after sunset I saw what at first looked like a plane with a vapor trail. The Vapor trail was lit up really bright, so my first thought was it was just the sun lighting it up and that's that. But it only took me about 10 seconds to realize it was a rocket taking off from Vandenburg AFB!
I didn't know what kind of rocket, but I saw an exit off the freeway just then, so I took it, parked on the shoulder of the exit, grabbed my Nikon Z8 with the Tamron 50-400mm lens and focused, made a quick adjustment to my exposure and got in a couple of dozen shots while it was lifting off into the sky. This is one of them.
