Salvage Saturday 7/29/2023

Hi everyone, I meant to post this last week but between shooting sunrise in Grand Teton and driving up to Kalispell that day, I forgot. So here is my starter for salvage Saturday this week.

When I visited spirit falls, there was a large log across the river. My goal this week was to reprocess using some more current techniques (I used a linear profile) and also use the new remove tool to remove there log. I think it did a pretty good job.

Any comments are welcome and pile on with your own salvage jobs!

My salvage job was one from the week after I first got a new Canon 5D MkII in January of 2009. It was not a good day to be up there with lots of haze in the skies and stormy conditions but I was out to shoot and wasn't going to be deterred. This is from an overlook called the Women's Resource Forum along the Historic highway just west of the Crown Point Vista House just visible on the right. The image needed a lot of work to bring out details and in the end left me wondering if it was really worth salvaging in the first place but here is the result.

That is a pretty good salvage job for all of the problems you had, Alan.

That is a beautiful image, Kyle. I have a similar image where a large tree with roots was blocking Manebezho Falls in Porcupine Mountain State Park, in MI. Here is the image with the removal of the tree.

This was from a trip to the Bristlecone Pines & was taken with the 4x5 on Ektar.
We lucked out with a dusting of snow overnight.
It looked a little flat so a little reprocess to bring out some texture in the sky.

Sorry I'm late posting this image––family visiting yesterday! Badlands National Park, SD (October 2022). I discovered a series of NEF files I hadn't previously edited. I created a pano, then cropped to a desired composition. In Adobe Camera Raw I edited the distant background using "DEHAZE" but not too much wanting to retain the atmospheric perspective. Also worked with the sky and foreground shadows.

This is an image I took in RMNP a few years ago. I used exposure blending of 3 exposures, unfortunately I hand held the camera. The exposures were out of registration and I could not align the three frames manually and the auto align in that version of photoshop did not do much better. I reprocessed the files using the latest version of Photoshop and the alignment was perfect. The result is below and look at the leaves and fine grasses on the lower right of the image!

Salvage Tuesday. From 2022 and a wonderful day with a walk up a small mountain. This is a 6 shot panorama and I was silly enough to keep my polariser on. I had turned it so that it had what I thought was no effect on the sky. On closer inspection it had changed the colour of the sky and the luminosity that became more noticeable the further right you swing. So lots of subtle colour changes in the sky. Ken
