Riding the Wave

Just across the river from Page, Arizona, this "New Wave" area differs from the original in that it's easily accessible, needs no permit, and costs nothing to visit. 590nm converted Nikon Z5.

Thanks Alan. Luckily, there were patches of vegetation amongst the rocks, if not for them, this would have to go B+W.

Very cool Michael! I like the bit of vegetation, it balances well.

I think I had read something last year about this new area. What's the name of it again? It would be fun to have an alternative when 4x4ing down sandy roads or dealing with getting a permit isn't feasible.

It's actually called the New Wave on Google maps and is near the Beehive Campground. There is quite a bit of area between US89 and what is called Stud Horse Point that is laced with dirt and gravel roads with nice views of Lake Powell in the Wahweap area. Some interesting cliffs and a few scattered hoodoos. Look for the Ferry Swale Road just across US89 from Greenehaven. That road connects up with several other roads build for access to the power transmission lines coming out from the dam. Blue Pools Road and Wildcat Rd. in particular gives you access to the cliffs just south of US89.
