Red Squirrels are much smaller than American Grey ones. The Grey ones are slowly killing off the native variety as they carry a disease that kills the reds but leaves them unmolested. They are also larger and outfeed the red. The North of England is the furthest south where reds can still be seen. This image from a garden in the North of Scotland. Ken

Cute little fellow - I like the colors and the pose.

We have the same problem in the Pacific NW. Gray squirrels aren't native in my area either and there are similar native red squirrels that are being pushed out by the larger invasive grays. Our native Pacific NW squirrels have a more orangish hue than the red squirrel you show here.
