Red deer in Southern Scotland

Off to Southern Scotland for a morning of deer photography and an afternoon of red kites. Unfortunately the only stag within easy access was fairly docile despite lots of females around. The light was also flat but it was still nice to be out in the fresh air. It was also an opportunity to see how the Autumn colours are progressing, the answer hardly at all. Ken

Interesting markings on this type of deer and quite unlike the ones we see on this side of the pond. Magnificent rack on this specimen and he seems to want to show it off to you in these images. Neat find.

That deer almost looks more like our elk but smaller. What an interesting looking creature. I like all of your images here.

Shouldn't your fall colors be going off by now? Or is it normal to be this late?

I think that someone introduced red deer into North America but from what I read they are rare.

Yes related to Elk but smaller, they go up to 600lbs although this one is a lot smaller than that. They lose a lot of weight during rutting so this one may well bulk up. Autumn colours are yet to come, I will post images and dates from past years. Ken
