After leaving Pedar island ( Thread here ), stopped at one of the pink sand beach islands, there are a few isolated beaches with small shacks for souvenirs & snacks. It is also good for snorkeling. Usually, you are required to have a permit for your drone to fly in Pedar island and Komodo islands etc, I didn't get one as it was forecasted to rain and I didn't want to waste $ getting a permit.
Once settled in at this particular beach and having some box lunch + much needed fresh coconut water after the hike at Pedar, I asked the boat captain and crew if it's ok for me to fly the drone. They said yeah...no problem. Soweet!!
About 15 minutes into the flight, I see this figure coming running towards me from the shack, waving his arms....I turn to look at him and it's the captain..."PARK RANGERS PARK RANGERS...Bring the drone down..." I look past the boat and see a blue/gray boat approaching the island at a fast speed and see about 4 rangers standing...I have never brought down my drone as fast as I did that day...as soon as it got down low enough, the captain grabbed it in the air, I powered it down and it jumped into the boat and hid it somewhere...the dive instructor took my remote and hid it under the table...and i pretended to grab my DSLR from the camera bag while the Park rangers came ashore. They walked towards me, my heart pounding...closer...they say hello and keep walking past me...phew
The pink sand comes from these really red corrals, but I didn't see any in the water, just a few stacked by the shacks.
I was able to get some shots off in the 15 minutes or so...I really wanted it to capture me snorkeling and then land home when battery got low....but noooo...
The rangers stayed the entire 1.5 hours I was there, they were doing some land surveys and couple of them went into the jungle...i guess to count Komodo Dragons....
