Pictured Rocks, MI

I finally have some new photos to share here with you guys. It's been over 3 years since I've been able to take a trip so this was good for my soul ; ) My wife and I decided to go somewhere within driving distance and this was only 12 hours away so not too bad. It's been 10 years since I've first visited here, I was a little wet behind the ears with landscape stuff the first time. Seeing it again with a little different of a perspective and maturity helped. Our cabin had it's own private rocky shoreline too which was awesome.

Easy to see how the place got its name - neat looking rocks. The water channels in the sand make a fun abstract in #3 and the closeup in #1 does too. I like the shoreline in the last shot. How did you get the motion effect in #4?

Thanks Alan, I took that shot at 1/8th just handheld panning as the water came it. Just took a bunch messing around. I got some pretty cool ones but I liked the way the sand streaked in that one. Reminded me of desert varnish.

Love these Jordan! I am glad you got a break and got to get away. Pictured Rocks is a place I have been meaning to get to for the last 3 or 4 years as I have been going to the Upper MidWest for my fall colors lately.

With these awesome images of yours, I for sure need to do it this fall!

I really like how each image has a very unique perspective. I have tried, I give them all a tie for my favorite image....

Where was the last one taken? Did you take the boat Tour?

Thank you Jim,

The first time we went way back in the day was during Fall. It's beautiful, and if I have time this year I might try to head back up there. The last image was taken on the east end of Miner's beach, it's called Elliot Falls. It pops up on google earth if you search the beach but it's easy to find, you just walk the beach until you can go any further.

We did do the boat tour this time, I recommend one of the sunset options, the cliff side is glowing for most of the 2 hour ride. I didn't bring my camera since I just wanted to relax but next time it's coming with me : ) Also if you like rock hunting there's a few Agate beaches up north where it's ok to collect and we got some beautiful pieces.

Thanks for the tips Jordan. It looks like I might have a busy fall season this year, but if I can, I do want to do Pictured Rocks finally.

Do you remember which beaches you found the Agates at? My son is a rockhound, so he would enjoy any agates I might find for him.

We had luck at the large beach in Grand Marais. There’s a small lot next to the Woodland Park campground for day use parking. If you continue further east down the shoreline towards muskallonge state park my wife said there are more beaches that are less crowded and not as picked over. The one main road going that way was closed for storm damage so we didn’t get there. Still had great luck on the big beach though.
