Orion Nebula with SBIG 8300 color camera

Wow Chuck! My jaw didn’t drop, it exploded!

This is so amazing!!! Love the detail and coloring! So intricate, one of the best Orion shots I have seen.

So you had me looking up what a SBIG 8300 color camera was. What kind of files does it output? Pixinsight sure did a good job with this, I am guessing I need to bite the bullet sooner then later to start using it instead of DSS.

Thanks Alan and I do have it framed, hanging on a wall.

Thanks Jim, the 8300 was my my first venture into a cooled ccd camera. I really liked this camera and sorry I sold it. I haven't tried the newer cmos color cameras which are probably much better. It output fit, tiff and jpg files. I captured in Nebulosity and did all of my stacking in Nebulosity. I combined my 30 second shots and 360 second shots separately and then combined the 2 stacked images in HDR composition and used HDR mutiscale tranformation to take the brightness out around the trapezium which works great when using that combination.

Fantastic result, and good proof of what a OSC can do for astro. Really nice blend for the dynamic range challenges of this object and colors are exceptional. I really like the Running Man too - superb. Well deserving of the Daily Featured status!

Thanks Mike, I was thinking about getting another one shot color. I shot 95% of my galaxy shots with the SBIG or the Starlight xpress osc. I'll get around to post some of them eventually. I don't think any one could tell the difference if I shot it with a osc or mono.
