North American and Pelican Nebula + Final Version

It's been a while since i've been able to take a shot of anything. I've been busy moving across the country. SW Florida to Oregon was a stressful move but we made it and I started to take some shots again. I miss my observatory I had in Florida but I'm able to image from my back yard. Here is my first shot. I used my Canon 100 f2.8 macro lens set to f4 with the ASI 1600mm and a 0.5 Ha filter. I took 20 360 sec shots. Last night I was able to get 2 hours of O3 data and tonight I will try for S2.

Congrats on the move Chuck! I don't recall how much time you have spent in Oregon prior to this, but there is a lot of beautiful country in Oregon in addition to some nice clear skies.

I sure like this a lot. I recently shot the North American and Pelican nebula's at 150mm, but my lens was having some technical issues. I processed the shots, but the stars were not up to par, I need to get another wide lens to capture this again.

I like how the Pelican stands out, and that's the Cygnus Wall too?

I am glad you got moved, it's always a stressful time, but I am glad you are settling in. Maybe you will build a new observatory?

Looks nice. This is the naked skies part of the year in the Pacific NW so a good time to shoot.

Moving up to Oregon from where you were is a long haul. Whereabouts in OR did you end up?

Thanks Jim,
I've been to Oregon almost every month except Januarary and February. I know the weather is bad in the winter but nothing is worse than SW florida in June, July, August and September. The last hurricane did it for us. I have family in Beaverton so we decided it was time to move before I got too old. I am renting at the moment and will possibly buy a house next year, so no observatory for now.

Thanks Alan, we moved to the Portland area.

I'm on the other side of the Columbia from you in Vancouver.
We should get together sometimes. I'm always looking for someone to go birding with or do astro stuff . I'll bring my solar scope and hope there is some nice action on the sun.

To be honest I am summarily clueless when it comes to astro stuff beyond what I am watching on here :) My favorite venue is the Gorge once we get out of the naked sky season. Shooting north facing waterfalls with bright sunshine above doesn't work so well.

Wow, glad I scrolled to the bottom before I commented. That first image is nice, but of course the final image is killer! Looks like you must have some decent skies at your new location. Lovely colors and details in this, I am really liking these wider views the more I see of them. I will have to do some lens imaging I guess too at some point. How is that 100mm canon macro? I do not see star issues in the corners on this, at least at this magnification. Is that the original EF non-IS version or one of the newer EF or RF versions?

Thanks Mike, I'm at Bortle 7 but the tranparency is excellent. The problem I had in Florida is inconsistent transparency. The transparenccy was below average most of the time. I would get one good night and it would be a waste of time if I had bad transparecy the next few nights which usually happened. It sure does help to have good transparency on consecutive days.
The canon lens has IS and it is the ef L series. I set the lens at f4. I use an old Orion motor focus which is just hand controlled. It is so hard to focus without a fine focus. I could never get good focus until I added the motor on it.

Hey Chuck,

I just saw that you had finished this. What a great job! I wish I could get mine looking this nice. I really like the way this looks.
Thanks Jim, i'm running out of things to image from home, I'm new to this area and need to find some place to go for dark skies.

Amazing! Makes me want to get a prime camera lens and shoot widefield. I’ve always wanted a rokinon 135mm to shoot wide and maybe even mosaic a whole region like Cepheus. Definitely on my bucket list and seeing this makes me want to do it more

Thanks, I wish someone would come up with a fine focuser like a crayford or rack and pinion for camera lens.
