NFTs, the way of the future?

In today's fast developing cryptoworld, NFT are gaining new followers, collectors and creators everyday. While there are people on both sides of the fence, lovers and haters, supporters and denigrators, believers and sceptics, it is clear to me that NFTs are here to stay - as are blockchain and cryptocurrencies.

Personally, I find NFTs interesting for various reasons.

Commercially, I love the fact that hey are adding unicity to what would otherwise be just another digital file that everyone can copy, duplicate and share without recognising any compensation - or even credit - to the author.

Artistically, as a Fine Art landscape photographer who has been working for a long time on investigating the effects of time on still images, and on representing it in my photographs, I love the fact that they will stay around forever - as much as there can be such a thing as "forever" in the first place, of course - and that adds a layer of "timelessness" to my work on the effects of time. Plus, it gives me the possibility to play with moving stills in a way that the printed medium obviously doesn't allow me to do.

Last, I love the fact that the files are "out there" divided among all and belonging to none, so to speak - the beauty of blockchain applied to art.

Therefore, I started a Foundation account where I started collecting art, and where I also will be minting my own, starting soon now that I became a creator. Here it is, for those interested: https://foundation.app/vieribottazzini

So, what do you think about NFT and their application to the art of photography? Looking forward to your thoughts, best regards

NFT definitely seems to be here to stay. I only know the very basics of it, because so far when I had read anything on it, it’s been applied to really high end art work. So it will be interesting to see how it trickles down to us little guys. :)

I had never heard of blockchain, so maybe we need a description of what these new technologies are.

I will check out your link later Vieri as I am currently out shopping. :)

Interesting in concept as a way for artists to make more from their efforts. It will be fascinating to see how this plays out for those who participate. I wish you the best of luck with this Vieri.

Blockchain is here to stay of course as it is basis behind all crypto currencies. scale is still an issue by its very nature.

Interestingly it is finding more uses and NFTs is one of them. I find it fascinating what people are willing to pay for them right now.

Hey Jim,

I knew about bitcoin, but didn't know anything about NFTs until last week :D and now, I have two works listed on Foundation, which is a pretty hard platform to get into... I believe that we are "little guys" just as long as we believe we are - or, to put it better, if we won't believe we are not little, we'll always be little guys; whereas, if we believe we can do anything, even if we might not be able to become Picasso, we'll definitely move up in the world a bit :)

Philosophy aside, the good thing about NFTs is that while there are established "normal" artists moving into NFTs, there is also a lot of room for others to get established. Thing is, I believe that NFT buyers are a very different group than buyers of fine art prints, for instance, even if there might be some overlapping between the two groups. This, in turn, opens up a lot of possibilities ;)

I have never heard of NFT. I have heard of blockchain but unable to define it.
Hey Ben, I am with you there - I have very little idea of the technicalities behind it all, but luckily working with cryptocurrencies and NFTs is easy enough that even I can do it :)

Hello Alan, yes indeed, the concept is very interesting, finally digital art is "signed" and protected, which is a good step forward. We'll see how this evolves, and thank you for your kind wishes, much appreciated :)

Hey Jameel, yes prices are crazy! :D Good to see that blockchain is finding new uses, and hopefully this will also open new possibilities to creators to be able to make a living out of their art :)

Best regards,
