My year of backyard birding & wildlife watching

Hi y'all

This year I’ve been spending more time in and around the Bay Area, focusing on what’s close to home, things I have missed such as backyard scenes, local birds, and the small critters I usually walk past without noticing.

Shooting nearby has slowed me down and helped me see familiar neighborhoods, North bay , east bay & south bay parks, and San Jose city corners in a more intimate way. I ended up with quite a few images I’m happy with and wanted to share them here.

20 Sandhill Cranes

If anything, I have learned not to take anything for granted. Back in November & December, we had a long stretch of 300 miles long radation fog over central Califronia, blanketing the region, the sandhill migraiton pictures were very difficult to photography.

There are some seriously cool shots in this mix. Hard to pick favorites when they are all this good but #2, #8, and #20 keep my eyes lingering longer.

Even numbers only on the shot numbering?

My favorites are #2, 8 and 20. I avoided looking at Alan's list and it's funny we both picked the same 3. All of them are really great, but those 3 stand out to me.

And yeah, inquiring minds want to know how your Top 10 turned into a Top 20 alternate numbered? Are you planning on giving us #1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 later? :)

lol, Jim, thank you ! I often keep going back to the same location to get better shots, often my patience pays off.

Talking about numbers, it's an old habit back to the coding days.
