Mustang Mare

A beautiful young mare, looking at my photographer friends with curiosity. I never get tired of watching them and being with them, even though 99% of the time they just stand peacefully grazing. About the only time there is action, is foaling season, when the mares go into foal estrus (heat), and the other stallions try to steal them away from the stallion they are with. Main foaling season is March thru July.

Nice portrait!

I've only seen two wild horses out here in the swell, and they didn't stick around...
Thank you :). Ours unfortunately are pretty habituated to humans, as their herd management area is in a multi use area, with camping, fishing, hunting, off road vehicles and a small village of around 150 or so people.

Hey Darcy,

This is very nice! Good work with this. And nice job on leaving a bit of breathing room over the hill.
