"More Cuban Chrome"

Cuba - Real and Raw

Another image of some of the classic cars in Cuba. This is from our first night in Cuba, at the Central Park in Old Havana.

How many "star bursts" can you get from one street lamp?!

That starburst certainly seems in place behind the classic chrome down in front. Nice nighttime lighting.

Loving that chrome Tex! Very nice work here.

What camera did you choose to take with you on this trip?

What percentage of the cars in Cuba do these old cars make up?

Jim: I took my Canon 5D III and my Canon R.

I'm not sure about the percentage; the old cars are prevalent. It is very common to see them around town. There are other cars as well. I did not pay much attention to the makes, although I did see one that was different (new) and it turned out to be a Chinese model I believe. My sense is that having a car in Cuba is a luxury item and the cars are used to provide an income to the owners. One of our five drivers lives in a household of 18 family members and the car is the main income provider for the household. During the week I spent in Cuba, I saw 3 or 4 luxury cars - Mercedes Benz. Makes me wonder how they got there and who is driving them.

That’s interesting. It makes sense about the cars being income makers for families.
