Hey Rick, thank you!Magnifique... Sad they won't allow tripods. They should do "photographers hours". Your picture is beautiful
I have seen those kind of caves too. I agree, garish purples and blues, etc do not make for a very natural looking scene. They make it look like you are at Disneyland.Nice they had natural color lighting - this works really well.
I have been in a cavern in Arizona (Colossal Cave) that had multicolored lights everywhere and I wasn't impressed in the slightest.
Thanks Ben.Jim the lighting works perfect here. We have timpanigos cave here but it is fairly small and very poor light
I can't remember if a tripod was allowed. It's been 10 years since I was there and it's about a 1500 foot climb so I won't be returning.Thanks Ben.
If it's small, do they restrict tripods? Even with bad lighting, if you can atleast use a tripod that's great. Here at Carlsbad, some of it's so well light you can hand hold your camera. Though a tripod certainly is a nice help in a lot of it.
It wasn't like this when I went 3-4 years ago..Hey Rick, thank you!
Sorry if I caused any confusion, they allow tripods all the time. No need for a Photographers hour, because you can use a tripod at any time, they also let you use your own lighting if you wanted to. I prefered just using their ambient lighting.
Hey Rick, I went in September. It could be that they use a reservation system that the people are limited and more evenly spread out through the day. You should go back again. It wasn't the slightest bit crowded when I was there and I was often totally by myself.I inquired about tripods when I visited in 2015. Tripods are accepted without restriction. I was advised that the best time for tripods is to visit in late January-February when the crowds are at their smallest. I had a tripod with me but setting it up was difficult in the crowds. I used it more as a monopod.
The temperature year round in the caverns is 56 degrees. No wind.![]()
Hey Rick, well it's better now then.It wasn't like this when I went 3-4 years ago..
There's so many places to see in the US we have to make a choice...Hey Rick, well it's better now then. This was my first time visiting. You should go back there.
