Memorial Weekend in the Northeast

Got in some good hikes and some time at camp over the weekend. My grandson and I took a long hike into the Siamese Ponds Wilderness area of the Adirondacks.

And spent some time at our camp, 10 acres and a lean-to we built on a pond:

This is looking back towards the camp, the island is in the middle, the camp area is in the green patch to the right of the small island.

Surprisingly, the bugs were few.

Lovely place. Like the reflections on the water. Bet you can get some good shots at sunrise/sunset there!

Thanks, Ben. The weather and spring conditions were perfect for the entire weekend; and it is my favorite trail.

Stephen: It is a good sunset place, as the sun sets pretty much behind where I was taking the photo, so the clouds can really light up. Also, in August the Milky Way should be vertical to the far end of the pond (according to Photo Pills); so I'll be trying that this year. Oh, and at night, in the lean-to, the peepers and bullfrogs really whoop it up !

Thanks Al, if I can ever get you to a fall outing in the Adirondacks (or anyone heading this way), I'll show you the hot spots -- and we can kidnap Dean and absorb some of his great ideas.

Jim: You met Tristen once at Zion, when we hiked the Left Fork to the Subway (and I stepped into the 3' deep hole in the creek). : ) Now, I can't wait to get my son, Colden, now 9 into the mix.
