Medano Creek

Captured about 7 years ago at Great Sand Dunes NP after crossing this frigid creek. For those that haven't been there, it flows in "waves" from the snow melt (you can see the waves or ripples created from the uneven flow in the image). Captured on expired Kodak BW400cn with an ancient Minolta srt201 back, rokkor 50/1.7 with both an orange filter and a CPL. Scanned on a Kodak Pakon f135+ with minor adjustments in LR.

Nice range of light and some beautiful clouds.

Interesting how it flows - looks very similar to the small creeks that cross beach sands and they also sort of pulse in their flow. I have employed the beach stream ripples into many a beach sunset scene.

Madano creek is a mind blowing cool creek. I have gone there in early summer where it was flowing maybe a foot deep at the most, but it's like 30 feet wide. The grandkids loved playing in the warm water, and being so shallow all of the kids could play or float to their hearts content.

I like how you captured this, and B&W works so well Jon. While I like the creek, it may be the way the clouds were rendered that I enjoy most about this image.

Thank you! The clouds were working in my favor this date. Stacking the filters, I was hoping for good seperation between the sky and the clouds as well as some deep contrast to accentuate the late afternoon shadows.
