Mineral terraces at Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park.
C&C always welcome.
C&C always welcome.
Thanks Jeffrey. The north end of the park is the one area I want to revisit. I wasn't fond of the mob scenes farther south. Dress warm - January might be a bit on the chilly side.Great image, Alan. I'll be there in January.
Thanks Ben - my timing on the light was sheer luck as I had not visited that area since the early 70's and had no idea what time of day was most optimal. This shot was taken in the morning before there was any direct sunlight on the formations. The shapes, the colors the light and the composition are all prefect here Alan, you have shown the best Mammoth Springs images I can recall.
Thanks Darcy.That is beautiful Alan.
Thanks Jameel - the colors felt like they faded once the sunlight came over the hill to the east so late blue hour seems to be the best target time. That is a very nice rendering of that area of Yellowstone. The colors of the terraces along with the rising steam makes this stand out.
Thanks Monika - you are right about trying to find subject isolation amidst the various infrastructure at those springs. That said sure glad it was all there so I could wander around in the first place.Nice composition, Alan. Tough with the railings/ropes, trees, etc as I recall.
Thanks Sonny.Beautiful image Alan!
Thanks Tom.That's real nice.
Thanks Jim - if I make it back to Yellowstone the north end of the park is my primary target with this area at the top of my list.Awesome work Alan. The Mammoth Hot Springs area is a very fun area.
Thanks Jon - it's a neat part of the park when you can access it. This was from Sept. in 2018 which had cold nights but no storms while I was in the area. I have seen more than a few early winter storms in the northern Rockies in Sept. in previous years. This is a fantastic capture and one place I have always wanted to shoot. We were there in Sept of 2017 but it was right after a snow storm and this part of the park was closed unfortunately. Fantastic work here!
