Locomotive 3716 - Summerland , BC

Although this locomotive never operated on the Kettle Valley Railway (KVR) during the railway's heyday, today this machine takes tourists along the only section of the KVR still in existence. Locomotive 3716 originally burned coal but it was converted to burn used oil which may account for the grey smoke. I have heard from locomotive firemen that white smoke was good, black bad. Similar to a woodstove fire I suspect, black smoke usually signifies incomplete combustion.

And what a cool train. I am not a huge train buff, but I do really like trains. I think they are fun to watch and capture. Colorado has quite a few of these old trains that now pull tourists. I have been on one of them, but I have about a dozen more to go I think.

So I do really like this image. The black smoke might not be a good sign, but I will say that It looks kind of cool.
