Laguna Beach in Southern California is home to over a dozen different coves and beaches. It makes for a fun place to photograph, so it's one of my favorite areas. I captured this in January.
This particular area is called Woods Cove, and it's got a rock shelf area with a miniature Thors Well. In addition, it has what I call Little Spout that blows out water just before the huge wave crash and splash behind it. It's kind of weird how it works, so not sure exactly where the spout is fed from since it blows water before the water splash behind it. One would think the large splash would happen first, but it doesn't.
Also what's nice with this shelf area is it doesn't get too many people on it. There will be others taking selfies or other photographers, but the Rock Shelf is separated from the beach just enough, that if you aren't careful, you are going to get wet getting to it or from it. On this particular day I knew I would probably get wet from what the tide chart was showing, and sure enough, I had gotten soaked to my waist as I was leaving the rock shelf after sunset. Fortunately I always wear water pants and shoes with neoprene socks when photographing at the beach. If you don't get wet, you aren't trying hard enough is my motto....
