Landscape from a Ledge

I committed blasphemy and when Monika and I hiked in to the Lewis Lodge ruins I turned my camera around and shot some landscapes from the ledge where the ruins were instead of the ruins. The light was far from ideal for the scenes we could see from the ledge we were on but the view was incredible and the likelihood of me coming back for nice light was far beyond remote so I shot the scene anyway.

In this first image you are looking south towards the main part of Arch Canyon which is just beyond the small knob in the distance on the right. When I looked at this place carefully on topo maps it sank in why the drop-off looked so intense - the elevation of the canyon floor near the intersection of this side canyon and Arch Canyon is roughly 5480'. The ledge we were on when I shot this image is right around 6400'. The canyon floor just to the side of the cliff on the left is around 5500'.

A telephoto image looking south towards Arch Canyon. The main fork of Arch Canyon is just behind the small knob and the cliff face just behind it:

Finally looking north. The kiva structures are visible at the far end of the ledge in this view.

While not ideal lighting, these are still nice to see. That is quite a canyon there. Do you have another version of #2 that is just a little wider?

Actually I do have a wider version. I was infatuated with that little tree right at the end of the ledge on the left the day I shot these so it got featured a lot. The lighting for shots in this direction was seriously harsh.

I was grateful I still had unsoiled underwear upon climbing back into Monika's FJ when we were done

Actually I do have a wider version. I was infatuated with that little tree right at the end of the ledge on the left the day I shot these so it got featured a lot. The lighting for shots in this direction was seriously harsh.

Yeah, I can see why you were infatuated with that tree, it is cool looking up on that ledge like that.

The telephoto shot in #2 at the top had the best version of the tree - that's why I selected that one for the initial set instead of the additional image. It still got lost in the harsh light facing into the sun.

Should I have suggested we stay for sunset? Then we could have gone up those slabs in the fading light....

Yeah...I will have trouble getting nice images like this. I get vertigo just looking at yours.
