King of Wings

Yep, I heard about it breaking a while ago, it might have been Oliver who told me first. I am surprised it took so long to get into the news like this.

But yes it's sad. And yeah, you never know sad to say. People love to climb on things to pose for photos that they just should stay off of.

I would like to think or hope it was just natural. But then again, if someone decided to stand on top of it, say in that boring "hold a flashlight pointing" at the Milky Way, I could see someone standing on that wing and it end up breaking it in the middle of the night.

Sad to hear. I would certainly prefer that this was a natural event since at some point gravity will always have the final say.
I was there back in June, it was already in a precarious status, half of it broke due to the winter rain, the monsoon rain only accelarted it.

The wing looks pretty intact in this photo from the internet.

Based on everything that has been vandalized or broken out west in the last several years I'd say it was broken by people. Formations that have stood for thousands of years suddenly are breaking in our short lifetimes. Maybe someone even trying to do a selfie standing on it.
Like the "Teapot" several years ago, or the "Cobra" by Fisher Towers... The internet has become very destructive.

Just my opinion though..

I was there on June 12, it was still mostly intact however I noticed the mud cracks in the mid section:

When I went back on June 19, the a piece of mid section already broke off:

I was thinking lucky me it didn't happen when I was sitting just underneath it.
