IC443, retake

So I originally captured this with my William Optics GT71 which has a 335 focal length which is shown as taken here on Dec 28th.

This image I recaptured it using my Stellarvue SVX102 W/flatter which has a focal length of about 553
I have about 7 1/2 hours in this image of IC443, I wanted to double that time but life, weather and the moon got in the way so I stuck a fork in it as done..
So considering i didn't get all the time in it I planned, I thought it turned out pretty well.

And I guess I am a sucker for starless images so I am listing it too. Not very astronomic, but still a pretty image.

I kind of like the starless version, it highlights the subject. Both are gorgeous, the color and detail but the second seems crisper.

very nice set, it is always interesting to see the starless next to the image with stars. If having to pick one I do like the image with stars, but I acxtually like them presented as a set like this the best, as it allows one to really see the very subtle nebulosity signal and color variations better. The starless always makes the nebulosity more dramatic - I enjoy goping back and forth to see how that same signal is in the original with stars, but not as obvious to see.

After all that it must also be said this is a great image of this area of the sky for sure too.

What a great retake Ed! It's great seeing them presented side by side like this. I know personally when I am processing mine, I do enjoy viewing the starless version as one can see the details in it so much better. Adding the stars is great, but there is no doubt to me that some details get lost. I might have to give some thought to doing the same with mine too, as I think this is a great way to present them.

I need to double check the weather report real quick this morning, but my plans are to start packing my gear up and running out to Joshua Tree to set up. The full moon will be a pain, but I am going to try to work through it. I hadn't heard of IC443 until you posted it, so maybe I will give it a shot tonight, it's really a very cool nebula. And I have a brand new AEF I haven't tried yet, so I would like to get that installed and running too, so tonight would be great for testing that.
