Hiking to Hidden Lake

I've already shared the sunset shot I was targeting at Hidden Lake, but I can definitely see spending days around Logan Pass finding great scenes. Here are a couple of shots I liked along the trail as well as a shot at Hidden Lake prior to sunset. Any thoughts are welcome.

1) I know these have a name but I don't know it...

2) Looking east and using a dry creek bed as a leading line

30 Hidden Lake. There is a grizzly visible (just "bearly") in the lower right.

4) The bear...

I love the view you got of Hidden Lake itself - lots more color than I got with late morning light there. Were there a lot of people trying to get shots of the bear(s)? I could tell where bears had been spotted on the boardwalk trail because of the clusters of people creating trail jambs trying to see.

You picked a nice time to visit Glacier - and get out. They are getting clobbered right now. The pass between West Glacier and East Glacier Park Village got 16" of snow yesterday with another 24-30" expected.

We picked a spot a little passed the overlook to set up. We had just my wife and I along with one other photographer and that was it. Two people came up there trail asking if we'd seen the bear. We moved to a clear spot (I left my camera on the tripod) and saw it from a ways away. I hadn't realized I'd gotten it in some of my shots until I got home.

Incredible - the overlook to Hidden Lake was a mob scene last year in mid Sept. and down closer to the visitor center was even worse. Guess I will keep the books open on a return visit next year. Last year's crowds were a real turn off for me.

Very cool shots Kyle. I agree that Logan’s Pass area has so many options and opportunities. #2 and 3 are my favorites.

#2 for me although I would be delighted to have produced any of them. I am sure that the camera was level in #3 but the image looks as though it falls off to the right, it could be the bright patch of lake bottom right or the effect of a wide angle lens with the camera pointed downwards. Ken

Hey Kyle,

Definitely worth the hike, and #3 has the right balance between water, mountain, and cloud. I like your title for #1 :)
