Hidden Underworld
One of my older but still one of my favorite images. I decided to reprocess this image to give it a fresh look.
I have a special relationship with this image. First of all, it was tough to access this crevasse. I spent several hours inside the glacier exploring and photographing. Another reason why I like this image is that it cannot be retaken. This place doesn't exist anymore. It melted away next spring.

Enjoy

This is truly beyond amazing Artur. What a magical land this must be! It truly looks like something that was created out of CGI because of how awesome it is. But to know it's a real location and that you got to it, really makes it so special.

Fantastic image, but as a climber chilling to think about ending up down in one of these. Looks like you might be able to just walk into this one but there aren't any foot prints!? Is it at the terminus, hence the disappearance? Where was it?

Thanks. This image was taken on Turner Glacier at the base of Mt. Asgard on Baffin Island. The crevasse was easy to access. It was quite an interesting part of the glacier. This was on the flat part of the glacier where a small lake was created in the summer. This lake was connected with the system of crevasses ( That is why it has a flat bottom). Lake and water in the crevasse was frozen solid when I was there otherwise it wouldn't be possible to access it. I found a small entrance and decided to crawl in. The ice cave got bigger and bigger. At some point ( where this photo was taken) it was about 5 meters high. At the end, there was another entrance that I didn't know about at the time ( that is why there are no footprints).

Thanks for the backstory Artur. I rappelled into creases and climbed back out when I was learning how to climb, but have never crawled/walked into one like that. Goodonya!
