Hanging with a Kingfisher

That is a really cool shot of this guy. I have caught glimpses of them before but never with camera in hand and the bird sitting still for any length of time.

Yes, I once heard it is better to be lucky than skilled, I think I have the luck but need more work on the skill part. It was a great morning! I learn something every time I take the camera out. The shots of him flying back did not turn out but the composition was good and the proximity to the subject was wonderful, will remember in my mind for now,..... next time.

Thanks Alan, It is a hard bird to photograph and although I had some luck in finding him, being alone helped as I understand most animals comfort zone, I still came away empty handed on the flying shots. Hopefully I will find him out there again and we will be able to spend another morning together and I get the action shots right next time.

Kudos on a great portrait. I have yet to find a belted kingfisher that allowed me close enough for a quality photo.
