Great Blue Heron Nests

I never knew nesting herons were congenial enough to build nests so close together. That's a lot of hungry mouths in one photo frame.

Hi Alan thanks for the comments. You are right that's a lot of hungry mouths to feed and the adults are kept very busy. The nests are not quite as close as they seem in this photo, the 500 mm lens somewhat compressed the distance between the nests! ;)

Nice capture Larry. Terrific that you saw these two nest and were able to include so many herons in the image. Is the rookery close to your home? Spending some time around the rookery when the young are active can provide hilarious displays of avian behaviour.

Thanks Alan for your comments, appreciated! ;)
I spent about three months at least once a week going to this rookery, about 4 miles from my home. There were four nest in two trees and they hatched at different times. Watching the chicks grow up and show their avian behavior was a fun time. Two years later the trees all came down and nests are no more! :(
