Golden Path

The path leading through June Valley in the Auyuittuq National Park on Baffin Island is located on one of the most spectacular Arctic trails. The trail follows the wild Owl River and serpents around the Innatiavaluk mountain range. The immensity of the surrounding landscape is emphasized further by poor comparability of scale, as there are no trees or other elements that could be used for contrast. This view unveiled for us as we entered the valley. The indigenous flora that has just started developing its fall colours created the distinctive golden coloured path.

What a fantastic view Artur! I remember seeing some somewhat similar scenes in Alaska, but not quite to this scale or remoteness.

Your description is dead-on - for the viewer that has never visited this place there is nothing in the scene to really impart a sense of scale for the enormity of the mountains. Beautiful scene.

Thanks, Everybody! Because I visited the area multiple times in the past 5 years (at least once or twice a year every year), I am looking for new compositions that not necessarily show Mt. Thor or Mt. Asgard. I am yet to master how to show the best the immensity of the area...Stay tuned....work in progress! Cheers!
