GNP Day 2 - Part 2

We arrived at our next campsite, Lake Frances and did so just in time. We knew some weather was moving in so we quickly set up camp. No sooner had we finished the rain started coming down. The campsite was up a ways from the the lake so we didn't really know what to expect. Seeing the lake for the first time, even in light rain, was an OMG moment. The lake is not too big but across the way are towering mountains that go straight up from the lakeshore. The water was this aqua green color and glowed under the overcast skies. A waterfall ran the length of the mountain and we could hear the rushing water throughout the campsite. Best of all, we were the only two people there!

The rain didn't last too long and we were anxious to leave the tent and explore more of this glorious spot. We just hung out on the lake and watched the clouds begin to clear. As they did, all of a sudden a huge mountain appeared in the background behind the Sentinels. It was Mount Cleveland, the tallest peak in the park. It was another OMG moment!

We finished the day with calm winds, clearing skies and a nice reflection of a mountain sunset in the lake. We knew we were continuing our hiking tomorrow but we didn't want to leave this magical place.

The drama in these shots is off the scale. I'd probably laugh if I saw this in person. My favorites are Nos. 6 through 8 because of that giant-emerging-from-the-clouds feel. But there is something to love about all of them. Nicely done, Bob.

Thanks so much. I appreciate that it appears I have captured the drama at this location. I know what I feel but it's hard know whether that feeling is conveyed!

Wow - I can see why you might not want to leave. I love the shots with the heavy cloud cover as they add a sense of mystery for where the tops of the peaks might be. Beautiful waterfalls at the lake. Great series.

Thanks Alan. I agree that the heavy cloud cover gives a mysterious feel. However, the clearing skies revealing Mt. Cleveland was simply amazing. It became hard to take photos because we just stood there in awe.

This is a really great set of images. We seldom see images form this part of Glacier. I have been to Bowman Lake a few times but only as far as I could drive. This is a really special set of images.

Thanks Ben. I owe the route to my son who did much of the planning. Getting into the back country was so much fun. We hardly saw anyone to this point. Soon, we would run into people finishing the CDT at the Canadian border. That's for an upcoming episode.

I tell everyone that plans to go to Glacier to head up after Labor Day. Most go in the summer anyway...

October is gorgeous around Bowman Lake as the larches hit their golden fall color.

I better get adding my thoughts fast! :)

My favorites are #1, 4, 6, 8, 10.

I think I like the tranquility of #10 the most. Then I love the drama in #1 next.

Then comes the mystery of #4, I enjoy the clouds and the water layers with the mystery of the mountains sandwiched in between.

I would wrap it up with #8 and 6.
