Getting Intimate in the Snowy Range

On my way back after a thoroughly disorganized long weekend trip to WY, I hiked a bit up the Lakes Trail in the Medicine Bows. It was generally cloudy, which made the hiking from 10,500' to 11,000' much easier, but comet viewing more of a theoretical endeavor than reality. The wildflowers are probably peaking there now.

The columbines were so plentiful, that I decided not to shoot the blue/purple ones & hold out for albas & do something a little different.

The rock there is an almost-translucent white, which made for a nice backdrop for the penstemons. On the back side of Med Bow Peak, it's pretty much a talus slope until sunset; that's when all the different facets of the broken up rocks catch the last rays & reflect/refract (not sure which term to use, but I bet Doug can set me straight) blue & pink in an amazing show. Problem is the multitudes of battle killed pine trees making it something to see & appreciate rather than something to photograph.

Awesome Monika! I love that delicate whites in #1 and the purples in #2. Pretty nice bokeh one both, I would lean to #1 as my favorite.

Almost the dead opposite of shooting things in space 😁

I love the details in both of these macros.
The things in space were hidden in the clouds & rain. Kind of funny to think of such ephemeral things like wildflowers as being more reliably present....
