This weeks Friday’s Focus will Focus on - Monument Valley.

Please post your best Monument Valley photo(s).

Since I am on the road I will post mine this afternoon when I stop, so let’s see who gets the honor of posting the first photo in this thread today?

Never been there, but those are nice. The horses are a nice touch Alan!
You need to get there Kyle! MV can be part of an easy 5 or 6 day loop. In fact you could do a 3 day weekend if you wanted.

You could do a Grand Canyon - Monument Valley loop or a Bisti - Shiprock - MV loop.

I agree with Kyle, the horses a very nice touch Alan - would have been nice if they would have stayed put and you could have moved around with a telephoto to try some more dramatic shots.

My long suffering wife put up with a wait until dark for me to shoot the full sunset. Luckily we were in our van so could cook dinner inside and warm ourselves up on a pretty windy cold fall evening.

These two shots flow together great in a slide show:

The horses were almost constantly moving and when I first set up at that location they were completely out of the frame to the left. I waited for them to get to the roughly where you see them in my image and shot for about 5 minutes before they had moved away from where I could shoot them. This was with a 100-400mm lens.

I must admit that I was looking for a good horse shot the whole afternoon driving around the loop so was delighted when these guys showed up for this scene. I do have a cropped version of this scene that shows the horses off a little better.

On my list to do...

While evacuated from a huge wildfire in 2010, I checked into the Recapture Lodge in Bluff, UT on my way to Monument Valley. As I wrote my address in the register, I wondered if I still had a home there....

I've heard that on some photo tours, for a little extra $, they bring the horses/riders to wherever you want them

Both very nice Monika! I wonder if I have processed any of my Tom Phillips shots. And I have a funny story about the mitten shadow. I was thinking how cool it was when I would see shots like yours and thinking one day I need to get that shot too. Well, about 2 years ago I was looking through my archives and I found I actually had the mitten shadow shot... I had forgotten about that shot. Oh boy....

Jim, I spent a lot of time looking for my Mitten shadow shot from Joe's tree & couldn't find it. Maybe I have it at home instead of the office...hope I didn't "lose" it as it's a non-icon shot. I was fortunate enough to see the shadow about 3 times in a row, so I was wondering, "what's the big deal?". Then I didn't see it for that many times. And now it's something like $20 instead of $5 to get in.
