Many photographers like to exclude roads and other signs of humanity, myself is one of those. But roads make such good entry points and lines into an image that's hard to find in the natural world. Including roads, not only gives us something familiar and scale, but can lead the viewer through the scene. Road shots just bring out the wanderlust in me and make me want to drive and explore what's around the the next corner or on the other side of a hill. As Alan mentioned viewing Craig's shot "I'd like to drive off down the Road to Nowhere" sez it perfectly.

I am amazed at how many images I have taken with no roads now that I have gone looking for them.

Here is one of Utah Hwy 261 from the top of a set of switchbacks originally carved into some cliffs to facilitate uranium ore trucks bringing loads down from a mine that is no longer active. The viewpoint for this shot is called the Moki Dugway.

A few miles away as a crow flies is an overlook to John's Canyon Rd.

The overlook is the first viewpoint of Muley Point.

Today's Friday's Focus is on Roads that are in our Landscape images.

I was inspired by Craigs (ckcarr) recent thread with super cool road shots in his Landscape photos. So as I was digging in my archives, I thought it might make for a good focus for everyone to dig their road shots out, or be inspired to include some roads the next time you are out shooting.

Here are 2 of mine to start.

Please add your own Road shots to this thread.

First from up in the Redwoods in Northern California.

This is from a remote road in Colorado, all it's missing is some lightning.

Another road shot I stumbled upon today...

This is from Colorado below Silverton I believe.
My problem with this shot is a quandary - since I didn't drive to this spot I would be stuck trying to decide which direction to go along this road upon leaving. Both ways look wonderful :D

First post. Hope I am obeying all of the rules. This is the Notom-Bullfrog Road as viewed from the Strike Valley Overlook in Capitol Reef NP taken during Ben Egbert and my recent trip there. Of course, the formation is the WaterPocket Fold. To take this sight off my bucket list was the number one goal for this trip not to mention the many other wonders in and around this park. The original is a 100% crop from the RAW.
