Flying Low

That is a really cool shot of egret. Nice that these are so close to where you live.
Thanks Jameel - I never had enough reach to shoot these critters between the length of my telephoto lens and the lower resolution of my old DSLR. The birds have been there all along but always just out of reach.

Liking the exposure on the egret Alan. Considered a tighter crop? The light from the right highlights the egret very nicely.
Thanks Alan - I looked at bunch of different crops but decided to leave the ratio at 2:3 and wanted to leave the ducks in the scene. I shuffled the crop rectangle around a bit and decided this was the one that left the egret just about right on the right third and gave a balanced feeling with where the ducks were relative to the left edge of the composition.

nicely done. i'm always surprised by the wingspan on the bigger wading birds. they don't look like they could be that big when they're tucked against the body.

Thanks Beth - I agree the wingspan of these birds is jaw dropping compared to other birds their size. I can see why when you watch them land as the egrets use their wings almost like a parachute as they approach the water and scarcely make a ripple when their feet hit the water.

Thanks Joe - it helps when we can rip off 30-40 shots in a second and pick one out of the lot :) I think we are using the same camera setup with the R5m2 and a 100-500mm L.
Indeed we are. It's awesome for sure. I use 20 shots a second though. Culling is hard enough without 10 extra shots. :)
