I've helped maintain that old fire lookout over the years. It takes quite a beating in the winter, so we paint it at least every other year. A certain amount of vandalism also is inevitable. There aren't many of them left in WA - it does detract from the pristine natural feel, but is pretty cool to have a European ambiance on one peak. It isn't very big, and doesn't have a reservation system etc., so it's a crap shoot if it will be crowded at night (mostly used as a day hut since the 3 mile hike is so easy). I bring what I need to sleep outside too.
