This one had been on my list for awhile and finally made it up in the right season. As it goes...there's always a story behind it...
Left home, went to shoot Mossbrae...man i've never seen so much water there, it was roaring, places where'd you'd stand and get the comps...all underwater...interesting time. After shooting there, lunch at my fav joint in Mt. Shasta...and head west, crossing Grants pass...such a fun drive and arrived at the coast. Had planned to camp there 3 days/2nights...1st 2 days the standard stuff...clear blue skies, hiking, driving up and down the coast taking notes...got lucky to get to Fern canyon without a reservation, so that was cool. Day 2...still no fog...just clear blue skies.... the SeaQuake brewery in Crescent city is awesome...good food, good beer and Kombucha. Last day, wake up gingerly ...eyes barely open...thinking to myself should pack up and head back early...its 12 hr drive...walking the road..kicking rocks...and feel this glow all around...pinkish...i look east...clear blue sky....look overhead...FOG...and its glowing....FOG...ran back to the tent...woke up my buddy, changed quickly and jumped in the truck...headed to area we had scouted the other day...1 boot on...the other is somewhere....get to the spot, park...find the boot...but no sock...so 2 boots...1sock...fun times to be had.
There was already a workshop there...but if you swing your tripod around wildly...they tend you leave you alone and give you space...I did share a granola bar...so that was nice of me.
We waited...and waited...and waited...waited some more...and then BAM!! the sun rays...now I was like a squirrel on crack...1 camera shooting the trees and sun star, rays...the other flower, trees...rays...like a chihuahua ... It was a good day.
