Flight into the Tian Shan Range

I guess these could fit in travel also, and I might do another color post there. This was on the biggest expedition of my life - climbing in two fantastic areas - in the USSR before it dissolved. The pictures here are from a chopper flight into The Tian Shan range on the Chinese border where we did the first American ascent of 7,000 m Khan Tengri.

Stunning set of images from a viewpoint few of us will ever get a chance to see. I love the textures of the high altitude snow in the third image.

Hey Jim,

These are great here in the B&W forum. All really wonderful shots, amazing even. The first 2 are my favorites of these.

Thanks for all the comments guys. The 3rd is my favorite - the snow and ice look silky - my eye searches (in vain) for a ski line down.

If you find a line you need to get someone like Warren Miller to take a video of the descent so we can watch. My old skiing skills never included terrain that looked anything even vaguely like that.
