Fall Color Reports - 2019

So you made it to Glacier, good to see this as I have never been there in fall.

Feels like a ghost town compared to July and the color is abundant - in the trees and the sky. Late Sept. is highly recommended although the Lodges are closed already. Tonight is the last night for Saint Mary's but they are not in the park. Temps in the forty's at night, perfect for camping. There has been some rain throughout the week (clouding up those skies).

Hi. I live in Texas and fall color lasts about two days. I’ve been in Glacier National Park this week but I took a short day trip to Watertown Lakes National Park in Alberta and there was plenty of color there as well.

I did not get to this hike. Weather was a bit rainy and very windy every day except Wednesday. I had a bucket list of stuff to knock out that day. I did walk down the Highline trail a bit.

We are just starting to see hints of fall around Vancouver Washington. We are roughly the same latitude as Montreal (45º40') as far as day length goes with a similar elevation.

This is the road to Christmas Meadows in the Uinta Mountains of north Utah almost to the Wyoming border. The area south of the pass on Mirror Lake highway is about a week from peak, I would say the area north of the pass is peak.

SW Colorado is prime (unless you're too low). Checked out CR7, Dallas Divide, Kebler Pass & on into Crested Butte. Places from Ohio Pass on into Crested Butte are bare but others are good. Ferns are pretty perfect on Keeler. Kenosha Pass itself is mostly bare. Snow is forecast for Thursday pretty much throughout the Colorado mountains.

Blue Lake trail -- still some flowers! Obviously a marshy or spring fed place.

From Cedar City to Panguitch on Cedar Mountain, the colors are gorgeous. I would say it will last another week or so, it is supposed to get really cold & windy tomorrow and possible snow. Cedar Canyon up the 14 is just starting with beautiful bright yellows & green near Cedar Breaks, the top of the mountain is about done but around Navajo Lake to Todd's Junction is gorgeous, then over to Cedar Breaks and the road to Panguitch is abundant with color. The look out between Cedar Breaks & the top of the mountain looking towards Zion is awash with reds, yellows, orange. A lot of yellow still on the mountain, most of the color is around 9000 to 8000 ft elevations. The higher elevations 10,000 are pretty brown already.

Pacific coastal forests are just getting started with the low understory vegetation showing some subtle colors. A few of the big leaf maples have started to show a bit of color in the coast range and coming into Astoria but most are still at least a couple of weeks for prime colors.

Darcy can you give an update on the colors in south central Utah? Last year there was still color this late in the year and I was thinking of running that direction this weekend.
