Evening at Sopris

Mount Sopris dominates the landscape around Carbondale, CO. Even though sunrise is the classic shot, I thought I might get some sidelight in the evening, and, what the heck, I was there and there were some clouds. The ones at that particular level lit up nicely in contrast to the higher ones. This is from just a bit further up the road than the sunrise shot I posted earlier.

That mountain certainly does dominate the scene - looks nice with the dusting of snow at the top. Looks like the colors are fading fast at the higher elevations at this locale although what's left still adds a lot to the scene.

This has a remarkable resemblance to the east side of Mt Timpanogos. I love these high altitude scenes in fall. Nicely done and processed.

Thanks, Alan & Ben. I knew I'd be late for peak foliage, but I definitely prefer a bit of snow on the mountains in the backgrounds. And, besides, I couldn't get away a week earlier. Next year.........?

Super cool Monika. Snow on the peaks makes a 100% improvement on an image compared to the same peak with no snow and it’s just all brown or gray. So you may not have a full set of trees with fall colors, but the snow on the mountain makes up for it in my book.

The colors in the cloud mirror the fall foliage on the ground. The snow dusted mountain anchors the image.
Thanks, Jameel. It's great how that worked out, even though at the time I was hoping for pink/red clouds (that happened just a bit further west after the light left the peak).

Me, too. Happy to see snow in the back range around RMNP now, too! And no permits needed soon!

I'll echo Jameel and say that the clouds and the aspen balance each other out very well.
Thanks.
