Eurasian Bluet

Coenagrion is a genus of damselflies in the Coenagrionidae family that is apparently quite common in my area. I think this one is Coenagrion pulchellum with a common name of Eurasian bluets. I have been trying to get a shot of one of these for quite some time now but every time I have seen them I didn't have my camera in hand. At least until a couple of days ago when I had my camera nearby while I was working in our garden. This little guy was flitting about in a catnip plant and I managed to catch him in action. This is an in flight capture at 1/3200s. Getting a clean shot was a challenge as autofocus on my camera had a very hard time tracking a shape like this amongst the leaves and branches.

C&C always welcome.

Wow! Great job Alan! That looks like it would be hard to capture, and even harder to focus on. This looks great, and glad you finally got him.

Thanks Jim - there was a pretty large pile of culled shots to get a couple of workable ones of this little guy.
