Early Spring in the California Desert

A scene at Red Rock State Recreation Area from a visit in early March a number of years ago. I saw blooms while I was driving and jumped off the paved road to go grab some shots. Not really on an established trail but you don't really need one in this type of terrain.

I like how this image is composed, it's like Rocks vs Grass. Rocks on one side, and grass on the other, and it's meandering division leads the eye on into the image.

Thanks Jim - it was a nice break from driving on that particular morning and seeing the blooms out near the creosote was a nice treat for this type of desert environment. I thought the little island of blooms in the wash was kind of cool as well.

Thanks - in mid summer the rocks will be the only thing with any real color showing other than the grays of the sage and the brown leaves on the creosote.

Thanks Peter - that would make a fun looking house although California's Parks system might frown on you removing enough of them to do that
