Dusk activities, - Horizontal or Vertical?

Two very different moods with this scene. I kind of lean towards the portrait version with more emphasis on the atmospherics. The landscape version has more emphasis on the people at the beach. Depends on your preferences

Hi David, both images are very good and my preference in the landscape version. To my taste it feels more balanced, thanks for sharing!
Another nod to the landscape version. In the portrait version, there is very little interest in the top 3rd of the image (to my eyes anyway).

Nice Photo, I like the Landscape photo better only because I think the crop on the vertical would be better and more striking if the kites were in the left third. I would also crop out a bit of the sky to focus more on the activities going on. This would shift the people and sun to the right third (more to center) which, in my opinion, would tell a better story on what you were photographing. Love the subject matter. As a side note I realized that these are 2 different photo's I Prefer the landscape for edit based on the kites being spread apart more. Just one man's opinion, nice work.

I can see why you are torn on the 2 options. I think I agree with Roger - it would be fun to see another vertical crop slide over to put the kits in the left. I would have to see what cropping out more of the sky would do - I think it does add something in the vertical image particularly.
