Duck and Cover

For those not old enough to recall the meaning of the title - back in the 1950s the Civil Defense Department used to have elementary schools run drills for the students to prepare for the event of someone dropping an Atomic Bomb. We were supposed to duck under our desks and cover our eyes so the blast wouldn't blind us. They would also show us newsreels showing the mushroom cloud as one went off.

Those images came to mind yesterday morning when I saw the makings of a nuclear sunrise in Vancouver and sent my Mavic 3 up for some images. We don't get a lot of these and the color show was thoroughly amazing. This is one of many images that came out of that session.

Way before my time Alan.... :)

This may well be your best drone image yet, especially from your driveway.
Thanks Jim - by your time the bomb yields were so high the jingle had changed to "place your head between your legs and kiss your a$$ good-bye 🤣

Definitely one of the better images and certainly one of the best from over my house.

Thanks Roger - I wish we would get more of them but then again they might not be as special if they were common.
Yes, since I have moved to northern Washington I have missed all the great sunrises we had in California. Does make me appreciate the ones we do get though.
