Devil's Golf Course, Death Valley National Park. CA

I looked at this place many times before I could find any kind of composition. This place discourages you from even looking because of the extremely rough surface. But one morning I got lucky and found something that seemed to work. I even got a bit of nice sunrise. This is a re-work from film back in the nineties.

Can you imagine trying to find your ball after a long drive off the tees? :D

The distant mountains and the nice pastels of the morning light worked out better than most images I have seen from there.

Great aerial perspective on the mountains and great sky. I can't even imaging trying to walk on this surface.

Hey Ben, it’s actually not that hard to walk in there. You wouldn’t want to walk in there without sturdy soles on your feet. But that surface is super hard, and can easily scratch your legs.

What is hard is finding a composition as Doug stated. It’s probably the worst place I have seen for compelling compositions. I think i had been shooting there for 14 or 15 years before I finally got a shot I was almost happy with.

Great work here Doug. Finding a meaningful composition isn’t easy at all. I like your reworks you are doing.

Nice colors in the distant mountains and the sky. Did you consider square crop losing the bottom part. The brightness there draws the eye towards it.

I think that would definitely work, Jameel. That dirt in the salt deposits makes a very dark line as the foreground fades way. It almos looks like two images pasted together.

Nice image Douglas. As Jim said, that place is so weird and so monotonous, that it is difficult to make a meaningful image there. And the surface is so hard and sharp that it is dangerous.
