Delicate Arch

I spent more than two hours at Delicate Arch in Arches National Park during my road trip. This was my first time visiting this park. I kept returning to the bowl below the arch because something was drawing me in. There was a similar energy here compared to Monument Valley. I had a few moments of sunlight during my visit to Delicate Arch, but it was mostly overcast and light rain.

I was lucky enough to have puddles in the bowl below the arch from all the rain. I cloned out three people from the image. I again used the 10-20mm wide angle lens.

That's pretty cool Michael. It's a view not seen too often as I think only about 0.001% of the people who hike up to Delicate Arch go down into that bowl. Nice job not cutting off the reflection.

Arches is really awesome, but it's a place you definitely want to visit only in the off seasons and for sure you want to skip the summer as the line to get in can snake out onto the hwy for more then a mile at times. If I do go in the summer, my solution is to go in well before sunrise.

True about the crowds. I found myself thinking I wouldn’t enjoy this place nearly as much in warmer weather because I’d be competing with so many other people.

Michale, nice point of view. It's not difficult to get to the bottom, it's the getting back up.

It wasn’t hard to get in or out of the bowl. I backtracked a little bit to find a safer route that was relatively flat. There was some scrambling up and over rock ledges, but nothing major. The trekking poles probably helped a lot. I wouldn’t dare try going into the bowl from the top!

2 people died & 1 was injured falling into the bowl in 2019. Not everyone is competent on that kind of terrain.

Having only been there in the dark , the bowl seemed like a scary place I did not want to fall into, lol

Not sure it captures the grandness of the arch you feel in person but is also a rarely seen view of such an iconic spot.
With the water providing a reflection it is very nice indeed.

People have slipped and fallen in there and died. And others had severe injuries.

That's a beautiful shot. Not only did you get lucky with the puddle, but the colors are much more vibrant with sunlight compared to my visit.

Yes, was aware of that which is why it was scary knowing there was a steep drop off close by but I really could not tell where it was.
When I was on the move I spent the majority of the time on my hands and knees to be safe. A headlamp is only so useful.

Hiked up after midnight, stayed for MW and then left at sunrise.
