I just love shooting moving water and creating the silky horse hair flow without over exposure. Normally I have found shooting moving water to suit what I like at around .25 - .5 sec. In this one I shot it at 1 sec. to try and create a more creamy look without getting the "spilt milk" look which I do not care for. I think it turned out quite nice and would certainly like your input/thoughts. Cheers, -Gaz

This is very nice and I think the shutter speed works fine here. I think a lot depends on the water speed and when it is roiled like this it has a lot more texture with a slow speed. The big deal is to avoid overexposure which you did here.

This is a nice image, but I think you could lose some off the top.

This shutter speed works great with these rapids and the nice fall colors on the far bank do a lot to compliment the scene. Fully agree that you do not want to turn the texture of rapids like these into white mush. Save the longer exposure times for tall waterfalls and ocean scenes where the middle ground can get pretty strange.

You could trim a little off the top but stay above all that nice fall color.

Thanks for your input Ben. Here is a cropped version per your thoughts. I like losing the top bit, but I really like the small rock in the lower right in the original. I guess I like them both. Thoughts?

Keep the side to side dimensions of the original. There is some nice color on the far bank on the right hand side to keep and the same is true on the left.

Another beautiful image, Gaz!
I like the original just fine. Having the breathing room above the color gives the scene more depth, to my eyes anyway.

Hey Garrick,

I like both versions, not being invested in either and seeing them both, I would say either one would work, and there is nothing wrong with either one. It just depends on how wide you want to display that scene.

Now, with that said... :) I will say one thing you did in the crop that I like over the original, is you cut off that small strip of cut off aspen along the left edge. With so little showing of that tree in #1, that did kind of start to nag at me a bit.

So, despite my unbiased neutral view in the beginning, I am started to like the crop one better...

Great eye Jim, after reading your comment on "that small strip of cut off aspen along the left edge. With so little showing of that tree in #1, that did kind of start to nag at me a bit", I cropped it off the original keeping the same aspect ratio meaning a small amount of the top is now gone too and here is what I have settled on for my eye anyway :)

I like this new one - I was liking the right side in the original crop and was sad to see it chomped off. The darker water leading into the rapids adds some perspective and the neat row of orange/red/yellow just above it feels nice.
