Wife and I were just random wash hiking looking for rocks around Hanksville, UT and we found some cool mud patterns. First time I saw deposits on the surface like that before and thought it was pretty cool : )
Yeah they had dried up Jim, it sort of look salty so I guess some sort of mineral was pulled to the top where the water had been sitting. That is super cool Jordan! That's interesting how they dried up, or were they still a bit wet? No matter, I love the white circle in each crack. What a great find!

I think what happens is that the water pools in these little spots and eventually evaporates and it leaves behind salt deposits on the surface. I'm not sure why it happens some places and not others but I guess maybe the amount of heat and how fast it evaporates might have something to do with it but idk : )What are these deposits? They make fascinating patterns
