Playing with different crops of this guy just to see how much I can actually crop.....wow what a difference from my D7200 with my 16-300 Tameron. The D500 and the Nikon 200-500 really makes a huge difference for me.

Great capture and sharpness. As far as crops are concerned, I would go back to the original and do a vertical crop and keep the entire bird.
Cormorants are hard to exposes because of the dark feathers, you did very well. The blue eyes are a standout feature for them.

This is a sweet photo! Can I make a suggestion for your tightest crop in #3? I know your goal was really just to see how much you could crop, but since you are cropping you might as well crop it into the best version possible which means no cropping off the edges of subjects. So in this case you croppped not only the top of the birds head off but also the back of it. Had you left just a little space on the top and left (in turn taking more off the right and bottom to leave the crop just as tight) you would be left with a crop that would be well worth printing.
