City of Rocks

Not to be confused with City of Rocks National Reserve in Idaho, this City of Rocks is a State Park in southern New Mexico. These boulders rise up out of nowhere across an otherwise spartan plain. There is a very nice campground set amongst the boulders making this a great spot to chill for a day or two. Nikon Z5, 24-70, and 10 stop ND filter.

They are some nice rocks - sounds like a fairly isolated place too. I like your B&W processing for the skies in this set along with your shutter speed choices.

I like the motion most in 1 - but the blacks in the sky in 2 are amazing
4 is something new. very interesting

Hey Michael, these are awesome! I haven't heard of City of Rocks in New Mexico, it looks like I need to check this one out.

I like the way you processed these, I like it when B&W really has Black in it. The 10 stop ND adds a really nice look to the clouds.

I like every one of these, with #1 and 5 really standing out.

How do you like the Z5? My Nikon DSLR cameras and lenses are wearing out, so I finally took the first jump to mirrorless with the Z8, but I need to get a 2nd mirrorless body. The Z5 is one that I keep going back to because it's so cost effective to buy. It seems like so much bang for the buck. But there are rumors of an upgrade to the Z6 II, that keeps me hanging on to see what it might turn out to actually be, but that announcement has drug out for months.

I bought the Z5 as my first Z body just for the price. The real investment (and payback) is in the Z lenses. I have the 24-70 f4 and the 20mm f1.8 which is mainly for astro. Both are excellent, as is the color I'm getting from the Z5 sensor. There is most likely a telephoto zoom in my future. But I still have a ton of DSLR bodies and lenses which I am having difficulty in letting go. Every time I make a photo trip I agonize over which gear to bring!

Long before I picked up the Z8 (which was about a month ago) the price and quality of the Z5 appealed to me. Some thought it was strange that I was preferring the Z5 over the Z6. Going back to 24mp will be something I need to ponder, the D850 and D810 have been my workhorses for so many years, so to step back to 24mp is something I will have to think about. I love my DSLR's, it's only that I have worn them out that I am at a point where it doesn't make sense to put money into the DSLR line when it's pretty clear that Mirrorless is the future.

So thanks, I appreciate knowing your reasons on the Z5, they would echo mine.
