I love the spray display you got with this capture.
I would be inclined to back off just a touch on the shadow recovery on the sea stack if this were my image - with this sun angle we normally would expect to see more a bit more shade.

What an awesome photo, Jim! That spray is huge. There's a nice amount of elements without it being too busy around the central drama. I agree with Alan's comment. I think leaving the rock more as a silhouette would add even more drama as well as more appropriate lighting, and the birds should still be there because they're against the white spray.

Wow, I love this! The birds in particular take it to the next level and lend scale to the fantastic wave. Agree on backing off a bit on the rock shadow recovery.

Thanks all for the comments. Love the coastal sunsets. I've done a redue and darkened down the rock a bit as suggested by a number of people and have also included the original raw files used.

So from the posts above am I correctly interpreting that this is a composite image, with the rock wave spray from one and the sunset form the other? A nice composite, although I still personally think the sea stack brightness is too high and makes things look just a wee bit off. The combo surely does make a jaw dropping result though!

So PLEASE tell me if I am out of line here, but I was so in love with the massive wave shot that I copied just the very small jpg and played with it. I want to emphasize that I do not see anything at all wrong with your excellent composite, but I think there is a lot that could be done with just the single image of the huge wave, especially if one had the full size raw file like you do. This is what I got in 5 minutes of playing, mostly boosting the sky saturation and bringing down the luminance and then a very small shadow boost to just start to pick up some details in the sea stack. The wave action, sea swells, and birds are just amazing, and the backlit huge wave spray is over the top! (pun intended...
)
Anyway, I hope you are not offended and realize that I only did this because I am in love with this capture of yours!
