Cathedral Valley ranch equipment

This old truck with some sort of lifting mechanism was located along the Cathedral Valley road someplace between the Fremont River Ford and the Lower South Desert overlook. It was near a water tank and probably associated with ranching. The truck is a late 1930's International Harvester. Note how the wheels are buried up to the axels

Looks a lot like a drilling rig (water well) but I can't see the articulation point for the piece on top to pivot to an upright position. Always fun to try to figure out how old stuff like this worked.

Curious that it is now buried this deep as the present day surface soil does not appear to be wind blown.

A drilling rig is a great idea. I think maybe the truck was flooded at some point and buried by the mud.

Super cool Ben! What a great find. I like how you have captured it in these photos.

Old vehicles like that are so interesting, and it's cool seeing how well it has actually held up over time.
